Mathematics: Results-orientated teaching

Aardvark SKE ensures that our trainees learn for life. Our teaching gives them the knowledge they need to prepare for their future career as a Maths specialist.

We use a variety of additional study methods, offering a more inclusive form of teaching, to provide students with a better chance of success. This teaching approach is particularly designed to match the students' different learning types.

Our online course enables trainees to apply their learning in a practical way. The teacher's role here is to provide inspiration and encourage the trainee to reflect on their learning and set targets.  Trainees can therefore determine the content and methodology of their learning experience.

“Twenty Years of Education in Four Short Paragraphs”

With over twenty years of experience in the classroom, I started my career as a teacher of Physical Education. Like most, I soon rose to the Head of Department and Director roles within PE. However, it was my passion for supporting people that I followed a career path becoming an Advanced Skills Teacher. This allowed me to stay at the heart of classroom teaching and avoid management that takes too many very good teachers away from our young learners.

During this period of my life I worked with a considerable number of young teachers, specialising in Newly Qualified Teachers and Initial Teacher Training, mentoring and coaching through the early years of their careers.

As I evolved into Senior Leadership, I began teaching Mathematics. I worked as a Lead Practitioner of Mathematics, in two different schools, still with a heavy focus on NQT and ITT, but always with the focus that it was about learning and teaching. Learning first facilitated by good teaching. I learned very early that I could significantly effect thirty children in my charge. However, I could affect even greater numbers of young adults through the Continuous Professional Development of teachers young and old; experienced and not.

Today my main focus is working with trainee teachers, working for a number of Teacher Training Organisations. Within this role I contribute heavily to Subject Knowledge Enhancement for prospective teachers and those already qualified but in other non-shortage areas.
